Bishop Skelton and the Diocesan Ecumenical and Multi Faith Unit (EMU) invite clergy and postulants of the Diocese of New Westminster to a special day of transformative and experiential learning on Islam.
This "Islam 101" Clergy Day of learning, sharing and dialogue welcomes Dr Seemi Yasmin Ghazi as the special guest facilitator, supported by the EMU Team. Seemi is a local Sufi teacher of Islam whose professional life is as a lecturer in Classical Arabic at the University of British Columbia, with special interest in Islamic literature, culture and spirituality, and Islam and Gender. Seemi's life experience and professional knowledge bridges Islam from the east to the west. Seemi has already guided us that "all questions are acceptable-no questions are off limits!".
A halal lunch will be served with Imam Mohammad Shujaath Ali Nadwi and members of the Masjid ul Haqq of Vancouver. Over lunch, mosque members will join with you at your table so you can respond to a couple of set questions in an intentionally created Christian-Muslim dialogue experience.
The day offers an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Islamic religious tradition, and how we can build and strengthen relationship with other religious communities.
The members of EMU involved in the organization of this event are: the Reverend Robin Ruder-Celiz (Chair, St Martin), the Reveverend Christine Magrega (St Augustine), Ms Donna Wong-Juliani (Christ Church Cathedral), and Mr Tom Esakin (St Paul).
Registration is required.
