Evensong is an ancient practice for modern times. A service of evening prayers, psalms, and canticles, conducted according to a set form, especially that of the Anglican Church.
Together, St. Anselm's and St. Mary's Kerrisdale are collaborating to present three services of choral evensong: Nov.4th, Feb.3rd, and Apr.14th, at 4pm.
We invite you to join us at St. Mary's Kerrisdale (2490 W. 37th Avenue, Vancouver) to bask in the wondrous music, and to experience the ever presence of our gracious God.
Feb.3rd will be a Candlemas Evensong - Candlemas, also known as the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord Jesus and the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commemorates the presentation of Jesus at the Temple which is traditionally the 40th day of the Christmas–Epiphany season. On Candlemas, folks also bring their candles to their local church, where the candles are blessed and then used for the rest of the year; for Christians, these blessed candles serve as a symbol of Jesus Christ, who referred to himself as the Light of the World.
A reception follows the service.
All are welcome, no previous church experience required.
