This event is designed to assist congregations in re-tooling their ministries to welcome persons into a community of faith and prepare them for a life-long journey of discipleship beginning with baptism. It’s modeled after the ancient catechumenal process and twenty years of spiritual renewal at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church in Seattle.
What’s a faith.forming.faith Immersion Weekend and why should I come to one?
Every healthy congregation wants to share its greatest treasure, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Thing is, these days it’s harder and harder to do that. Many of the assumptions by which congregations operated around “welcoming new members” in a by-gone era no longer work for “raising up disciples” in the present.
Most men and women who come seeking something need time to raise questions, learn to know who Jesus is and why that might matter to them, and thoughtfully prepare before plunging into baptismal waters.
Based on 20 years of solid experience of bringing men, women, and children to the waters of baptism and beyond through a yearlong discipleship process, this event will take participants through the entire church year in a single weekend. Placed in small groups for Bible study and walking the actual path of a disciple-in-formation, those who participate will not only have a rich and satisfying time of spiritual renewal for themselves, they will return to their congregations prepared to initiate a process of welcome and discipleship in their own communities.
The registration includes all training, materials, and six meals across the course of the weekend. It is imperative to the integrity of the training that participants attend the entire event. Travel to and lodging in/near Delta are for each participant to arrange. Thank you to B.C. Synod Missions Committee for subsidizing the weekend.
