The 2019 edition of the diocesan annual Clergy Conference took place amidst beautiful weather at the Whistler Conference Centre, May 6-May 8.

The keynote speaker was the Reverend Dr. Katherine Grieb, a biblical scholar and Episcopal priest. Dr. Grieb began teaching New Testament Studies at Virginia Theological Seminary in 1994, and is currently Meade Professor in Bibilical Interpretation. Her conference theme was "Paul - the brilliant problem".

In the course of four sessions Dr. Grieb directed the diocesan clergy gathered to look again at Paul and his contribution to the canon of the New Testament, and his theological insights that still inform our understanding of Jesus Christ and our faith 2000 years after the scriptures were written. She reminded the clergy that Paul wrote the first texts of the New Testament that were set down several years before any of the gospel accounts. For preachers it was an excellent opportunity to look again at Paul’s theology for which Dr. Grieb provided new insights and ideas.

The Conference included an excursion to the Audain Art Museum, facilitated by the Venerable Stephen Muir. Clergy met regularly for the Daily Offices, and enjoyed excellent and plentiful food. A number of clergy who attended the Conference remarked that this was one of the finest conferences certainly in terms of program content in recent years.

The Reverend Faun Harriman, Chair of the Clergy Conference and her team are to be commended on once again organizing and producing an excellent conference.
