September, 7th, 2011, was the day that The Reverend Father Allen Doerksen was installed by Bishop Michael as Missioner for the Central Fraser Valley at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church.
September 7th was one of the hottest days of the year even though it was late in the summer. In 2012, the weather did a similar kind of thing with soaring temperatures nearing and surpassing 30 degrees in the Fraser Valley, September 7, 8 and 9.
On September 9th, 2012, the St. Matthew’s faith community braved the heat to mark the one year anniversary, presenting a framed photograph of Father Allen with Bishop Michael taken by Peter Keighley and a more personal gift of refreshments. In the year following the installation the St. Matthew’s Abbotsford community has grown substantially not only in numbers but in their shared ministry. A major St. Frances Day event is planned to take place at St. Matthew’s, October 6th, 2012. Stay tuned for more information.
In the photo we see Allen receiving the framed photo from Warden, Carole Keighley. The photo will be kept on display in the narthex.
