On Monday, December 6th, 2010 an anonymous gift of 100 dollars cash was delivered to the Synod offices at 401 West Georgia. In the envelope there was a brief letter under the heading Anglican Memorial House (currently the ACW house on 14th avenue near Cambie).
In the letter the writer describes an event that took place in the early 1960's. At the age of 12 he had befriended the son of a woman who was living in the house. They noticed that there was a donation box in the entrance hallway of the house near the stairs. They decided to steal the box and inside there was approximately $9. They spent the money. In the letter he says
"This theft has been bothering me for about the past year or so. So I am making a donation to the Memorial House. I realize I am guilty of a sin and that this donation does not erase the sin. I hope this can bring some happiness to someone or a family at Christmas time."
Of course the vehicles for compassionate service ministry have changed substantially since the early 1960's but Synod Staff will make sure that his gift goes to a worthy cause.
And if he ever sees this webstory or reads the story in the February 2011 issue of Topic. We say "Thank-you!"
