The Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, Archbishop Fred Hiltz, is visiting the Diocese of New Westminster over the weekend of January 25-27th, 2013. Invited by Bishop Michael Ingham, the Primate’s visit is pastorally oriented focusing on the three parishes returning to the diocesan family—St. Matthews Abbotsford, St. Matthias and St. Luke Vancouver and St. John’s Shaughnessy (Vancouver). Meetings at the three parishes with clergy and lay leaders have been organized and Archbishop Hiltz will preach at St. John’s on Sunday January 27th at the 10am Eucharist.
Bishop’s Missioner Dean Peter Elliott describes this visit as a ‘ministry of encouragement’ for those who are giving leadership in the parishes vacated by previous congregations. “The clergy and lay teams in these parishes are giving extraordinary leadership in unprecedented circumstances and the Primate is keen to convey his own support and that of members of the Anglican Church of Canada across the country.”
