Oliver Macnaughton, 5,and Ben Macnaughton, 8, of the parish of St. Margaret Cedar Cottage in Vancouver, were fascinated by a nativity scene carved in wood which was delivered to the parish in time for Christmas and Epiphany.
The boys were impressed by the size of the figures--a shepherd, Joseph and Mary, the three Kings, the Christ Child in a manger, and three sheep.
The carvings were commissioned and given to the parish by Kevin Simpson and Don Meen in memory of Don's mother, Margaret, recently a member of Holy Trinity, New Westminster.
The pieces come from Ghana, West Africa, and are by a carver named Wisdom, whose work supports the development of a Neurological Sciences department at Korle-Bu Hospital, Accra.
