Bishop and Métis Elder Meet for Tea in Mission

Following her Palm Sunday episcopal visitation to St. John the Baptist, Sardis, March 25, 2018, Bishop Skelton remained in the Fraser Valley but travelled over to the north side of the Fraser to visit with Métis Elder and All Saints’ Mission parishioner, Rene Inkster.

They met for Tea at The Blackberry Kitchen located at 7494 Mary Street in Mission’s Fraser River Heritage Park the former site of the St. Mary’s Residential School.

The two had a wonderful time getting to know one another and Elder Rene spoke with Bishop Skelton about the importance of including Métis and non-status Indigenous people in the whole discussion of Indigenous justice (along with status Indigenous and Inuit peoples). Both the Executive Archdeacon, the Venerable Douglas Fenton and Indigenous Justice Ministry coordinator, Jerry Adams are making plans to more intentionally include Métis, Inuit and non-status Indigenous peoples in diocesan Indigenous Justice Ministry advocacy and programs.
