The Anglican Bishop of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and his wife are coming to the Diocese of New Westminster in October to participate in a Partners in Mission conference at St. Mary's Kerrisdale.

Duleep and Geetha de Chickera have long worked to promote a reconciliation and peace program in their conflict-ridden country. The bishop has served in both large urban and small village parishes of many ethnic origins, and Geetha has worked as a lawyer and teacher to promote the rights of girls and young women.

The bishop and his office were early to organize a pastoral relief and rehabilitation program for victims of the 2004 tsunami. The couple will be in Vancouver from October 17 to 23. The conference on "Partnership, Peace, and Promise" at St. Mary's takes place October 20 and 21.

Yale Deanery Conference

Yale Deanery is sponsoring a fall Conference on the theme of "Thy Kingdom Come," Saturday, October 14.

The Rt. Rev. Jim Cruickshank, former rector of Christ Church Cathedral and retired Bishop of Cariboo, will be the conference leader.

The Rev. Albert McLane, organizer of the conference, said that all age groups - from youth to seniors - are encouraged to come. It will be held at St. Thomas' Church,
