Diocesan School 2019

The Diocesan School for Parish Development 2019, the D of NW weekend version got off to a great start on Friday, January 25 at the Synod Office.

For 2019, there will be two sessions, the weekend sessions which run January 25-26, May 3-4, September 6-7, November 1-2 at the Synod Office and the week long session which will take place at VST (UBC Campus) June 16-22.

There are 21 students for the 2019 weekend sessions consisting of clergy and lay from 11 parishes including 3 from St. Timothy, Brentwood; 3 from St. John, Port Moody and 5 from St. Alban the Martyr, Burnaby.

On Day 1 of session one the students divided up into two learning groups, one of the groups led by the Director of the Diocesan School for Parish Development for the Dioceses of New Westminster and Ottawa and vicar at St. Andrew, Langley, the Reverend Andrew Halladay, and the other by the Reverend Jessica Schaap, a Diocesan School for Parish Development Instructor who is also the Missioner for Christian Formation on Synod Staff.

Over the four weekend sessions participants will engage in group formation, work with models, learn to give and receive feedback in congregations, groups and as individuals. We will work on conflict, learn ways to do Organization Development interventions and begin to prepare projects to be done at home.

The School is designed so that participants can begin either in Year A or Year B. To graduate the School, participants must complete both years of content, including readings and projects.

Registrants must attend all four weekends which run from 9am Friday through to 3pm Saturday.
