On February 2, 2014, the Parish of St. David of Wales Anglican Church voted to request Ministry and Congregational Development Committee and Diocesan Council to recommend to the Bishop (Diocesan Administrator in the interim) to close the parish. This request was approved and the Parish will close February 28, 2014.
This has been a very difficult decision to make because it marks the end of 109 years of Christian worship and ministry in this building, and also because the members of the parish are aware of the impact that this decision will have on many of their neighbours. This decision was taken because there are no longer enough active parishioners to maintain the life of the Parish.
Although St. David’s is closing as a worshipping community, the church building is still a worship site of the Diocese of New Westminster and will be managed by the Diocese of New Westminster. Diocesan Council will make decisions about the future use or re-purposing of the property located at 2475 Franklin Street. For the time being, Kiwassa-St. David Preschool and Nisga’a Ts’amiks Vancouver Society will continue to use the premises, and the Diocese of New Westminster on St.. David’s behalf will continue to welcome community groups who use the premises regularly. During this time of transition the St. David’s property will not be available for occasional user groups.
The parish’s final Sunday worship service will be on Sunday, February 23, beginning at 10am
