Father Lloyd Wright, assistant priest at St. James,
Born in
Wright worked as a civil servant before the Second World War, in which he served. Before becoming a priest he had to overcome a serious stutter.
He was ordained deacon in 1965 and priest the next year by Bishop Godfrey Gower. After a brief term at the parish of St. Saviour in East Vancouver (an area now incorporated into St. David’s,
Wright assisted Father Gordon Gardiner and later David Retter. He served in several capacities, including an appointment to the diocesan Native Indian Council.
He retired at the end of 1986. A requiem mass was held at St. James to celebrate his life.
Vespers for the Departed were said at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, January 17 at St. James' Anglican Church,
A Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 18 on the Feast of the Confession of St. Peter. Archbishop David Somerville was preacher.
The Committal will take place at Christ Church Churchyard, 16613 57A Avenue, Surrey Centre, when weather allows.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fr. Wright's memory to The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund,
