On Tuesday, January 29th at 7pm, the parish of St. Matthew, Abbotsford is proud to sponsor a public event called “The Postmodern Balance: Evangelical, Catholic, Liberal.” This event features Bishop Michael giving a talk called “The Postmodern Balance: Evangelical, Catholic, Liberal.” There will be a panel discussion featuring local participants from differing perspectives and faith traditions as well as an opportunity for the audience to ask questions. Guests will be welcomed to the strains of a talented duo playing classical music. A reception with the bishop and panelists follows the presentation.
Part of St. Matthew’s mission is to facilitate thoughtful conversations around the role of the Christian faith at this particular cultural moment. We could think of no one better to begin these conversations than Bishop Michael who has given years of thought to these questions. It was for that previous work that Bishop Michael was invited to give the 2012 address at the prestigious Luther Lecture in Regina. His talk on January 29th will be an updated version of this lecture. In a culture where the dominant media decries the role of the churches it can be quite easy to become discouraged about our common mission as witnesses to Jesus Christ. Bishop Michael’s talk will focus on a possible path forward for thoughtful Christians that is both hopeful and practical. All are warmly invited to come and join us for an evening of learning, dialogue and, hopefully, a new appreciation for the possibilities before us.
