Urgent Call for International Collaboration for a Fish Farm Free Pacific Coast
On Thursday, May 24 from 11am to 12:30pm the Wild Fish Conservancy Northwest and Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance hosted a joint press conference at Grandview Calvary Baptist Church. Elder Eddie Gardner of Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance invited Archbishop Skelton to attend and participate but she was unavailable, however, the Reverend Laurel Dykstra, gathering priest for Salal and Cedar Watershed Discipleship was able to attend in her stead.
The conference was held regarding the need for international collaboration to phase out Atlantic salmon farms on the Pacific coast. Speakers on the issues included Kurt Beardslee of Wild Fish Conservancy Northwest, Washington, Eddie Gardner of Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance, Shane John, fisherman from Chawathil First Nation, Dr. Claudette Bethune, clinical scientist, Karen Wristen, Living Oceans, the Reverend Laurel Dystra, Anglican Diocese of New Westminster, Hereditary Chief George Quocksister Jr., and Ernest Alfred, traditional leader of Namgis Nation.
