Aubrey Walter Godwin |
The Rev. Aubrey Walter Godwin, 96, died May 6 in Pitt Meadows. He had served in parishes across Canada after his ordination 70 years ago.
Godwin came to Canada at age 18 with the Church Army and after attending university in Quebec was ordained there in 1935.
He served in parishes in Quebec, Ontario, and Alberta before coming to the New Westminster.
In 1956 he came from the Diocese of Edmonton to serve at St. Stephen's, Burnaby. In 1963 he went to St. Thomas, Whalley, and St. Asaph, Johnston Heights, Surrey. His last work was a three-point ministry in 1971 serving St. John's, Squamish, St. George's, Pemberton, and Trinity Church, Woodfibre. He retired in 1975.
He was predeceased by wife Helene (nee Bennett) and a son and granddaughter. He leaves four daughters and four grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, family and friends in England, Australia, and the US. His funeral was held May 10 at St. Stephen's.
