The Parish of St. Cuthbert, have entered into partnership with three other churches in N. Delta (N. Delta Evangelical Free Church, Crossroads United and Trinity Lutheran Church) to sponsor a family from Syria.
In order to raise funds, local hair salon, Alberto's Unisex Hair Design and Alberto & Co. Hair Design paid it forward and gave back on Sunday, April 24 by opening their doors and participating in a haircut and hot dog sale fundraiser for this North Delta Refugee Project
We ended up raising $2200 on the day. The salon donated space and 6 stylists donated their time and talent. Out front we sold hot dogs with buns from Cobs Bread, chips and soda (all donated). One family walked by and was offered a hot dog. They stopped but could not speak English. As the person tried to explain what we were doing, a man walked up and offered to translate. It turned out that they were a refugee family from Syria. They made a donation!
In advance of the event, I’d let my hair grow to the point that everyone was saying to me, "Get a hair cut!" I was able to leverage that for donations totaling over $350. My side-kick Barney (short for Barnabas, son of encouragement), the troll priest, has been a "hide and seek" fixture of our gathering time with the children on Sundays. We begin our time together by finding Barney. You can see a before and after photo of both Barney and I accompanying this article.
The North Delta Refugee Coalition (NDRC) has raised nearly $30,000 to date and look forward to welcoming a family in 2017.
