On June 28, 2022, Shailene Caparas, CPA, CGA, the Director of Finance for the Diocese of New Westminster, Treasurer of PWRDF, member of the diocesan leadership team, supervisor of the diocesan Finance Department and Founder and Executive Director of Seedcare International Ministries celebrated a milestone with a ‘0’ birthday. As part of her birthday observance, Shailene wanted to share the day with her Synod staff colleagues, so she treated the entire staff to a delicious lunch featuring Middle Eastern food sourced by Receptionist and Administrative Assistant to the Finance team, Elias J. Neto. 

As the staff gathered at 12noon in the Trendell Lounge, (the meeting space shared with the Parish of St. John’s, Shaughnessy), Elias and Shailene set-up a laptop, speaker and projector for Shailene’s presentation. Once everyone was present, Shailene welcomed the staff and in response she was serenaded with the “Birthday Song” (HBTY). Then it was time for each person to pick-up the pre-ordered meal, find a seat, enjoy the great food and experience Shailene’s presentation; photos and video that encapsulated some of the many highlights of her life, particularly her commitment to Christian witness and evangelism. The presentation ended with a promo film introducing Seedcare International Ministries, the initiative founded and led by Shailene which involves the distribution of Bibles to areas of the Philippines that are underserved by evangelical organizations due to a variety of reasons. After the video presentation, there was ice cream cake and those who were able to remain past the usual time allotted for lunch posed for a group shot. 

Thank-you Shailene for all that you do for our diocese and for your mission in the world to spread the Gospel of Christ. Please keep Shailene in your prayers as she embarks on her next journey around the sun.
