Please consider a request by the advocacy group, Council of Canadians regarding ‘Just Transition Legislation’ by the Canadian government for citizens to send letters now to their Members of Parliament or the Prime Minister to show support for this legislation. You may also go to the Council of Canadians site or here.
The timing is crucial as parliament returned September 2022. The government of Canada promised legislation back in 2019, which involves both care of creation, transition to renewable energy and opportunity for employment for those moving from the oil industry all within the central understanding of ‘no one left behind’ and within a framework reconciliation with Indigenous communities.
This legislation has at its core what we would say as a Christian community… that we want to honour God’s creation and it’s means that we take specific action in Canada to stop wounding it.
It takes into account that we need a transition and we need it now.
The government of Canada needs to hear from Anglicans that we value ‘Just Transition’ in our country.
