Once again a dedicated group came out for a work party to peel and cut up 100 pounds of apples for St. Bart’s “Famous” Mincemeat. The recipe was originally given to us by Betty Brown, who was the wife of the Rev. David Hugh Plunkett Brown, the vicar of St. Bart’s from 1971 to 1980. During the 1992 celebration of our Centennial, the recipe was amended to leave out the fat (not the alcohol!), and has been made continuously for the last 22 years. The aromatic concoction is mixed in two dedicated garbage cans, stirred weekly with an oar, and packaged in time for our Christmas sales. There is never a lack of a volunteers to stir, as of course a taste must ensue! Watch for our sales event November 30th – the mincemeat goes quickly.
