Music of the British Isles was a popular theme to attract a full house at St. Stephen’s, West Vancouver on a rainy Sunday. The concert was well-balanced between the St. Stephen’s Community Singers and the guest artists: harpist Bess Lu, and flutist Nancy Rieken. Minister of Music, Dr. Annabelle Paetsch, programmed British works that expressed a range of emotions from dancing a jig to mourning a loss and gave the men’s section an opportunity to be showcased in their authentic kilts! The program included such well-known numbers as “The Skye Boat Song”, “Loch Lomond”, “Scarborough Fair” and ”Danny Boy”. The undisputed hit of the afternoon was a medley of pieces by Gilbert and Sullivan from “H.M.S. Pinafore” featuring the bass section.
The choir meets in the church (22nd and Gordon in West Vancouver) from 3:45 to 5pm on Thursdays once a week, to sing and enjoy secular music. No auditions are required. It performs two or three times (fall, spring and summer) out in the community at entrance–by-donation concerts. Please contact Annabelle Paetsch by email for more information.
