The Reverend Douglas Fenton was offered the position of Director of Mission and Ministry Development for the Diocese of New Westminster by Bishop Michael Ingham and he has accepted the offer.
Douglas will begin his new ministry March 1st, 2011
The departure of the Rev. Paul Borthistle this past August from the Synod Staff left a large gap in parish coordination, particularly in regards to; programming, support and ministry development in the Diocese. A Position Description was developed for a senior staff job, the job was posted in October of 2010. Bishop Michael with senior staff and diocesan leaders conducted interviews and the Rev. Douglas Fenton's candidacy was successful.
Douglas served in the D of NW at St. Catherine, Port Coquitlam and St. James and he was Chair of Interim Ministry here before taking a position in the national office ofÂ
The Episcopal Church in New York City in 2002.
Douglas notified the Presiding Bishop of TEC, the Most Reverend Katherine Jefferts Schori of his intention to leave his current ministry as Officer for Young Adult and Campus Ministries on Tuesday, December 7th and that his resignation would be effective as of February 28th, 2011 exactly 9 years to the day since he began.
Douglas will give oversight to the Ministry Assessment Process
(MAP), and will provide staff support for diocesan ministry and mission planning initiatives through all the instruments of the diocese. He will help analyze parish vitality and sustainability and will report that information to the Bishop and Diocesan Council. Douglas will also be the senior staff presence on a number of Diocesan Standing Committees.
