Our House West Coast Society
February, 2017
Dear friends:
This year has been a particularly difficult year for Vancouver's addiction recovery community. Everyone has been struck with the increasing numbers of those who succumb to their addiction by means of fentanyl. The deluge of statistics can be difficult to push through as we hear the number of lives lost sink to new depths. Our House West Coast Society has been continuing the hard work of keeping the doors open and fanning the hearts tiny flame that is recovery. We never thought addiction was any less than deadly - we always believed that sobriety and mortality are united, and that a life in recovery requires a hard look at day to day living.
We are celebrating our 40th anniversary this year, marking this special occasion during and after St. Paul's 10 am service on March 5, 2017, and through 2017 as Our House West Coast Society grows to meet the needs of those in the addiction recovery community. The ALR funding has worked to stabilize our community. Like most families, we have to watch our spending as recovery needs time in a normal home environment. We learn the skills needed to survive and build the connections needed to flourish in this life. As we learn, we remember to turn to others and reach out to pass our lessons along.
We hope that we can count on you as we reach out in our annual appeal; help us to shepherd the wayward and offer sanctuary to those who have lost their way. There is a place for recovery at Our House where we minister to those making their way back from addiction. Your support of our mission is deeply appreciated - connection to community is paramount in recovery; St. Paul's continues to fill this role in the growth and recovery of Our House staff and residents.
Yours in faith,
Lisa Myers, Secretary On behalf of Our House West Coast Society
