In following up to Resolution 9 that was carried at the 117th Synod of the Diocese of New Westminster, Bishop Skelton has written and sent the attached letter to The Hon. François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of International Trade, Federal Government of Canada.
The motion is as follows:
Resolution 9 moved by the Reverend Emilie Smith and seconded by the Reverend Expedito Farinas is as follows: RESOLVED That this Synod through the Bishop to the International Trade Minister Francois -Philippe Champagne calls upon the Government of Canada to institute a human rights ombudsperson for the international extractive sector with the power to independently investigate complaints, and make public their findings without the approval of any government ministry or cabinet.
