He replaces Mike Wellwood, who went to work for the Vancouver School of Theology in April. Wellwood was also a former diocesan treasurer.
Dickson served as diocesan treasurer from 1987 to 2000. He was a member of Christ Church Cathedral, where he served as a warden, trustee, parish treasurer, and chair of the renovations committee.
On the national scene Dickson was twice a member of General Synod, and served on and chaired the national administration and finance committee. He worked on the national Residential Schools Negotiating Committee, and is currently on the board of the Anglican Journal newspaper.
Most of his business career has involved work in the leather tanning and manufacturing industry. He recently has worked as a consultant for the Bishop of Rupert’s Land in Winnipeg, where he has lived for the past four years.
In announcing Dickson’s appointment at Diocesan Council June 13, Diocesan Treasurer Jim Stewart said that Dickson will follow a pattern set by Wellwood and spend much of his time working with parishes, and leaving much of the internal accounting work in the Diocesan Synod Office to Comptroller Marni Campbell and her successor. Campbell is taking maternity leave at the end of August, Stewart told the council.
