The liturgy was originally planned for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in January but had to be postponed due to public health concerns. Instead, it was held on the Feast of SS Peter and Paul (June 29), the two apostles who, despite their theological differences, led the mission of the early church to the Gentiles and who both bore witness to the faith by their martyrs' deaths in Rome.
About 100 people attended the shared worship at St. Mary's, located near the Joyce-Collingwood SkyTrain station. The service was planned by a team of volunteers from St. Thomas' and St. Mary's parishes. The two parishes have a history of working together in the community, as both are active members of the Metro Vancouver Alliance.
The first photo visible in the top scroll shows the two priests who took part: Fr Gabriel de Chadarevian O.P., Assistant Pastor at St. Mary's, and the Reverend Michael Batten, Rector of St Thomas'. Fr Gabriel is an Armenian Rite Catholic, and as a sign of unity, both clergy vested in Armenian stoles for the service.
The second photo (seen below) shows the lay team who planned and led the service: (from left to right): Edna Abustan (St. Mary's), Theresa de Ocampo (St. Mary's), Saki Ramos (St. Mary's), Elsa Nega (St. Thomas'), Marci Temple (St. Thomas'), Melissa van Uum (St. Thomas'), Lana Lett (St. Thomas'), Rob Austin (St. Thomas'), Duro Botez (St. Mary's), and Ann Marie Carlson (St. Mary's).
