Times are difficult for many people in our communities, including here on the Sunshine Coast. Grocery and rent prices are rising; it’s hard to make “ends meet” and many are turning to local food banks to help fill the gap.  On April 1, the four Coastal food banks (St. Barts Food Bank, Salvation Army, Pender Harbour Food Bank Society, and the Sechelt Sunshine Coast Food Bank) commenced the “Spring Coast Wide Food Bank Drive” to help those facing food insecurity. Community organizations, businesses and many individuals responded! The St. Bart’s Food Bank is exceedingly grateful!

On April 1, the St. Bart’s Food Bank volunteers received $4,600 in donations from patrons who visited our table at the Sunnycrest Mall. On April 18, the Hopkins Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary donated $1,000.00 and on April 20th, the Rotary Club of Gibsons donated a further $1,000.00 at the St. Bart’s “FUNdraiser”. The “FUNdraiser” took place at a local brewhouse where over 100 food bank supporters enjoyed an evening of live music and festivities.

The ongoing generosity of individuals and organizations in our community is what enables all four Coastal Food Banks to help throughout the year! Donations continue to be gratefully received at: stbartsfoodbank@gmail.com.
