From October 14-28, the Cathedral will host a two-week long art show as an exploration of love, hope, belonging from the perspective of participants in the Maundy Café. The opening celebration will take place on Monday October 15 at 11am.
The Beautiful Table is an art show exploring what it might take to create a city for all from the perspective of participants in the Cathedral’s Maundy Café.
Over the course of four weeks, guests, volunteers, and staff participants in the Café (a five day per week community kitchen) gathered to create art that explored themes of love, hope, belonging, and enough. This exhibition provides snapshots of individual journeys, and through engagement with these themes, speaks to the broader challenges at play within Vancouver’s charitable food sector.
Each piece in the show was created during a weekly, contemplative whole-community practice, facilitated by Steve Frost from Whitebox Creative, and engaging participants in questions of meaning and beauty, and ultimately what leads to human flourishing in the face of forces that would seek to divide us.
This cohort of creators all know each other through the Maundy Café, where they share food together five days per week in Christ Church Cathedral’s Park Room. They represent a diverse group of people, most of whom don’t call themselves artists.
The Beautiful Table runs from October 14-28, on the following hours:
Christ Church Cathedral is grateful for the generous support of the Vancouver Foundation in the creation of The Beautiful Table.
