Diocesan PWRDF Unit Chair, Peter Goodwin is pleased to share an exciting update to the story which first appeared on the diocesan website March 27.
Our diocese is now within a few hundred dollars of the target of $8000 CAD established by the PWRDF Diocesan Unit in its fundraising initiative to provide for the building of a greenhouse and training in its use for parishioners and community members in the Episcopal Parish of St.Mary the Virgin Itabo Cuba. The PWRDF staff in Toronto are sharing this happy news with Bishop Griselda and her people.
Many thanks to all those in the diocese who have so generously donated to this cause. There is still time to be part of this effort to assist St.Mary’s Parish and the Episcopal Church of Cuba to advance their objectives along the road to obtaining greater food security in a country still faced with food scarcity and rationing.
It is hoped construction of the greenhouse can begin in the fall and that this greenhouse will provide a prototype for other parishes to follow.
Although the amount of food produced by the greenhouse will be limited it will have a significant impact on the well being of community members making quality fresh fruit and vegetables production available year round.
Donations to ‘PWRDF Itabo Cuba Greenhouse’ may be made on the diocesan website, by using your church envelopes marked ‘PWRDF Itabo Cuba Greenhouse’, or directly to PWRDF at 80 Hayden Street , Toronto, Ontario M4Y 3G2 or toll free at 1-866-308-7973.
