WorkSafe, BC has taken a close look at the re-opening plan and guidelines for the Synod Office and for parishes and on June 24, Archbishop Skelton was very pleased to inform Synod staff and others that they approved of the plan and guidelines, offered a couple of suggestions and overall were complimentary about the work of the re-opening team.

For additional information about the Synod Office protocols, we've attached here the Synod Office safety plan, posted in the office and distributed amongst the staff. It may also be found below as a download.

The phased re-opening of some buildings connected to the Diocese of New Westminster began June 14 with opportunities for parishes to open for in-person worship if that is what they would like to and are able to do; and if they have submitted a plan for re-opening approved by those in diocesan leadership (led by Archbishop Skelton) responsible for the phased re-opening program.

If your parish is re-opening you will have been notified and given detailed instructions about capacity and the guidelines and restrictions. Please make sure you are aware of these conditions in advance.

If your parish is not currently offering in-person worship and you are aware of a parish that is opening and you’d like to attend, you must contact that parish, familiarize yourself with the conditions and confirm your attendance by contacting a responsible individual of that parish.

Monday, June 15 the Synod Office opened to visitors 9am-4pm; however, rigorous adherence to physical distancing will be maintained. The door will be locked and visitors should call ahead to make appointments with staff. Visitors will need to ring to be let in. There are decals on the floors indicating directions for movement and distancing. Visitors will be asked to wait outside and, if entering the building, will need to wear masks. Commonly used rooms i.e., photocopy/supply and food preparation areas will be limited to one or two Synod Staff people at a time. Only one person will be permitted in the restrooms at a time and they will need to be disinfected after use. Posters communicating the guidelines for social distancing, cleanliness and other practices are displayed on the walls of the common areas.

There are a number of other precautions that have been communicated to the Synod staff to ensure their safety.
