Christ Church Cathedral is located on the northeast corner of Burrard and Georgia at 690 Burrard Street.
People of all faiths are being encouraged to attend this service of prayer for the people of Japan, to remember those who have lost their lives and to support those whose lives have been forever changed by the devasting earthquake and tsunami.
Dean Peter Elliott and the Reverend John Shozawa will welcome those in attendance, the Rev. Grant Ikuta,
priest at Steveston Buddhist Temple will chant and offer prayers, Bishop Michael will
give a homily and Mr. Hideki Ito, the Consul General of Japan will address the congregation.
The music in worship will be led by Christ Church Cathedral Choir, and
Shakuhachi Flautist, Takeo Yamashiro will provide music for reflection.
There will be time to pray together using English, Japanese and keeping a space of silence.
The organizers ask that as many clergy in the Diocese of New Westminster as possible get the word out
to their communities about this event and encourage the children and youth (of course all others are welcome to participate) to construct origami cranes as symbols of support and respect.
The cranes can be folded from paper where prayer requests have been written.
Here is a link to a static site that demonstrates that process.
Origami Cranes.
There are also many
youtube posts that detail the construction of an origami crane.
Organizers ask that the cranes be brought to the service on Sunday.
