The St. Clement's Christmas tree team went to work on a rainy December 2 and at the end of an hour or two had transformed its assigned fir tree in Lynn Valley Village into a "Lynn Valley Nativity," complete with Holy Family and local wildlife such as raccoons, bears, and chickadees. The tree is also decked out with quotes on the spirituality of nature, such as this one from St. John of Damascus: "The whole earth is a living icon of the face of God."
A description of St. Clement's church as the Anglican presence in Lynn Valley and its Christmas service times are also displayed.
St. Clement's tree is one of dozens decorated by Lynn Valley organizations and businesses. Fifty dollars of each tree's sponsorship cost are donated to the Harvest Proejct, which was presented with a cheque for $2,750 at the grand "light-up" event on the evening of Advent I.
This is the second year that St. Clement's has sponsored a tree; last year its handcrafted decorations spoke of the parishioners' prayers for the Lynn Valley community and the wider world.
Say the St. Clement's organizers:
Decorating a tree in the heart of Lynn Valley gives St. Clement's the opportunity to share the joyful message of Jesus' birth with all who pass by. It's also a fun way to kick off the season with our friends and neighbours! If you are in North Vancouver, we hope you are able to make time for a leisurely stroll through the Christmas trees in Lynn Valley Village, located at the corner of Mountain Hwy and Lynn Valley Road; the St. Clement's tree is between Delany's and Browns, at the top of the stairs. You can even vote for your favourite tree (ours is #27, by the way ;-) Ballot forms are available from the Village merchants.
