Rev. Urquhart had been serving as interim priest-in-charge of the parish since September 16, 2017 and in October 2018, the parish held a special vestry meeting and after that meeting they requested that Archbishop Skelton appoint Rev. Urquhart rector, which she did.
Much of the sermon connects with the Celebration of the Memorial of St. Martin, Bishop of Tours which occurs on November 11 but was transferred to November 13 for this Eucharist.

Prior to the beginning of the liturgy, three First Nation's elders addressed the congregation and greeted Karen. Part of the First Nation's Welcome was the presentation of a ceremonical paddle and a blanketing ceremony performed by Squamish Elder, Wes Nahanni.
