Sermon preached by the Right Reverend John Stephens during the Celebration of the Eucharist for the Fourth Sunday after Epiphany at St. John the Divine, Squamish, January 30, 2022.
Of the three parishes in the Diocese of New Westminster where Bishop John was rector (St. John the Divine, Squamish; St. Philip, Dunbar; St. John, Shaughnessy), St. John, Squamish was his first incumbency. He was inducted by the Right Reverend Michael Ingham in December of 1995.
In his homily, Bishop John takes the Gospel and Epistle for his text and makes reference to the life of the Roman Catholic social activist, Dorothy Day and to an obituary of Thomas Keating within that context.
