Advent III, Gaudete Sunday was celebrated with flair at St. John the Divine Squamish.

This traditional Advent Celebration of the Eucharist in the Garabaldi Highlands featured many members of the congregation wearing their "ugliest" Christmas sweaters. Ugly Sweater Sunday is a fundraising event to aid Squamish Community Christmas Care, a compassionate service initiative for the region now its 38th year. Last year the organization put together 250 hampers for distribution in the area. This year the St. John the Divine contribution was spearheaded by Karen Brumpton (in the photo Karen is located bottom right in whith sweater with lights). Early estimates of money raised by St. John's for this appeal are in the $300 range.

St. John's is known all across Canada for the beautiful quilted wallhangings created by the skilled artisans of the parish. At this time of year the "Mary" banner is placed behind the altar. The second photo included with this post is creator of the work, Ruth Fenton.
